Position Summary
Lynn’s Cake, Candy, & Chocolate Supplies is hiring a dependable, detail-oriented Warehouse Associate. This full-time position combines ecommerce order fulfillment with the packaging and production of food ingredients and cake decorating supplies.
Daily responsibilities will vary based on order volume and production needs. The team member in this position must be comfortable moving between picking and packing customer orders, packaging products, restocking inventory, cleaning work areas, and completing other warehouse tasks. From time to time, this position may also require assisting or interacting with customers in the retail area.
Accuracy is essential. Our customers depend on receiving the correct products in good condition, and our packaged products must meet established weight, labeling, quality, and food-safety standards.
Order Fulfillment Responsibilities
- Pick products for ecommerce and customer orders using electronic pick lists.
- Verify product names, sizes, quantities, and item numbers before packing orders.
- Inspect merchandise for damage, defects, or packaging problems.
- Pack orders carefully to help prevent damage during shipment.
- Select appropriate boxes, packing materials, and shipping supplies.
- Prepare packages for shipment, including applying shipping labels and organizing completed orders by carrier.
- Follow special packing instructions for fragile, temperature-sensitive, or food products.
- Help process in-store pickup orders and other order types as assigned.
- Restock picking locations and return misplaced products to the correct storage area.
- Report inventory discrepancies, missing products, damaged merchandise, or order concerns to a supervisor.
- Help maintain an organized and efficient fulfillment area.
- Assist with inventory counts and warehouse organization projects.
Packaging and Production Responsibilities
- Package food ingredients and cake decorating products in a variety of package sizes.
- Accurately weigh, fill, seal, and label bags, containers, and other product packaging.
- Operate manual equipment and simple production or packaging machines.
- Prepare packaging materials and set up the production area at the beginning of each assigned production run.
- Read and follow work orders, product specifications, and written work instructions.
- Follow established standards for product weight, appearance, labeling, quality, and uniformity.
- Record production information, including quantities completed, materials used, and notes about the production run.
- Inspect products and packaging throughout production to identify labeling errors, seal problems, damaged products, or other imperfections.
- Monitor equipment and notify a supervisor of mechanical problems, material concerns, or product-quality issues.
- Perform light assembly work using hand tools or power tools when required.
- Move completed products to the appropriate inventory or storage location.
Retail and Customer Support
- Assist customers in the retail area from time to time as business needs require.
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service.
- Help customers locate products or connect them with another team member who can answer more detailed questions.
- Communicate product or inventory questions to the appropriate team member.
Food Safety, Cleaning, and Workplace Standards
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and all company food-safety procedures.
- Keep food products, packaging materials, equipment, and work surfaces clean and properly organized.
- Prevent cross-contamination by following cleaning, handling, and storage procedures.
- Maintain equipment according to established sanitation and housekeeping standards.
- Complete end-of-shift cleanup, including wiping tables, washing utensils and equipment, sweeping or mopping floors, removing trash, and returning supplies to their proper locations.
- Follow workplace safety procedures when lifting, using ladders, operating equipment, and handling cleaning products.
- Help maintain clean and orderly warehouse, fulfillment, production, and storage areas.
Qualifications and Skills
- Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and remain productive without constant supervision.
- Ability to work cooperatively with fulfillment, production, retail, and management team members.
- Clear and timely communication skills.
- Ability to interact with customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills, including accurately reading weights, quantities, and measurements.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- Experience with Google Workspace, inventory software, shipping software, or ecommerce order systems is helpful.
- Ability to recognize problems and ask questions when information, inventory, or instructions do not appear correct.
- Previous warehouse, fulfillment, shipping, food packaging, manufacturing, or inventory experience is helpful but not required.
- Knowledge of baking, cake decorating, chocolate making, or candy making is preferred but not required.
Schedule and Seasonal Availability
- The regular schedule is Monday through Friday for most of the year.
- Overtime, extended hours, or additional workdays may be required during the holiday season and other high-volume periods.
- Applicants must be able to adjust their schedules when seasonal business needs require additional hours.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- This position is performed primarily in the warehouse and backroom areas of our retail location.
- The storage and production areas are kept below 70 degrees, and employees must be comfortable working in a cool environment throughout the day.
- The position requires standing and walking on concrete for most of the shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and repetitive hand and arm movements are required.
- Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to safely use a step ladder and retrieve products from shelving.
- Must be able to lift and carry bins or boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to push or pull carts containing products, supplies, packages, or waste.
- Must be able to perform repetitive packaging, labeling, picking, and packing tasks.
- Must be able to use standard workplace cleaning products.
